- The very first World Series game to be played was in
1903 between the Boston Americans and the Pittsburg Pirates. Boston won
the series 5 games to 3. The games weren't even called the World Series
yet, rather an experimental post-season championship.
- Leading all other teams in baseball, the New York
Yankees boast 26 World Series championships.
- Mickey Mantle, the former Yankee right-fielder, still
holds the record for most home runs and RBIs in a World Series event at
18 and 40, respectively.
- In 2002, the All-Star game was called off after an
eleven inning tie due to a shortage of pitchers.
- Cal Ripken Jr, the Baltimore Orioles shortstop, never
missed a game in sixteen years.
- Cinncinati Reds' Pete Rose holds the record for most
games plays and most hits at 3,562 and 4,256 respectively. He probably
made a lot of money gambling on the games in that time.
- Nolan Ryan struck out more batters than anyone in
baseball.
- Barry Bonds, San Francisco's outfielder, won the
National League's MVP award 7 times.
- Connie Mack, manager of the Oakland A's, has 3,755
career wins under his belt--more than any other.
- The baseball hall of fame is in Cooperstown, New
York. It was erected in 1935 to commemorate baseball's 100th birthday.

Before reaching the Majors, Ron Darling took the mound for Yale in the first round of the 1981 NCAA East regionals. In a game against St. John's, he pitched 11 innings of no-hit baseball, only to lose the no-hitter in the 12th. He gave up an unearned run in the 12tyh and lost the game 1-0.
