Sometims they are brought together as team memorabilia or sometimes they are collected to cover a specific period or maybe a particular league. Dozens of letters mention that fact, and it has doubtlessly curtailed nearly all lines of collecting…. 1948 Leaf - Long after Ruth's career was over, Leaf produced a beautiful set of cards featuring modern stars such as Joe DiMaggio, Jackie Robinson, and Ted Williams. In the world of baseball cards collecting these types of cards is something that many collectors look forward to. Up until the early 80's Topps continued to dominate the industry and it wasn't until 1981 when Fleer and Donruss released sets of cards and was sued by Topps over licensing rights that a judge ruled against Topps stating their licensing was only for products distributed with gum, thus opening doors for competitors.
