The great American pastime of collecting baseball cards unfortunately seems to have reduced in popularity over time, especially with the recession forcing people to cut spending on luxury items. In the late 80s, I was working in conv stores and Topps actually had a rep going ... I collected cards as a school kid in the late 70s and early 80s and am getting ... As with so many of th.e great baseball players th.e Mickey Mantle baseball cards will capture th.e interest of collectors because you will be able to find reprints an.d actual cards that show off various years an.d positions that were played by Mantle during his long an.d illustrious career. However, few collectors have s en any Babe Ruth baseball cards of t.he 1920s; his most widely recognized cards are 1930s gum cards. In those days when there were no modern printing techniques, a type of baseball card was made out of photos of baseball players or teams pasted on a small piece of square cardboard. As a result, cards began to use photographs, either in black-and-white or sepia, or color artwork, which was not necessarily based on photographs. Those old Topps packs were held closed by some glue that had a tendency to dry out. As they move into new markets, they will always be remembered as a premium sports card maker.
